Location: This bicycle trip starts in the city of irvine and you travel to the balboa fun zone and back.
Best trail head: There is a great parking lot at Windrow park that you can leave your vehicles. This area has plenty of free parking, and it is a great place to meet. From here you will ride the bicycle trail to the back bay. This trail is all on bike lanes, free of cars untill you reach back bay. Once in back bay you will encounter heavay traffic of very slow vehicles (bird watchers). Once you make it to newport dunes, get out to jamboree and ride the the sidewalk across pch and over to balboa island. On Balboa island ride the one way alley to agate street and catch the ferry over to the fun zone. Stop for lunch and reverse the directions for the trip home.
Activites: Fun zone arcade activities are present. The nautical museum has relocated to the newport funzone. What I like the best is sitting at the harbor and having my lunch. The pizza stand in the fun zone has lunch specials. For 6 dollars you get two slices of pizza and a fountin drink. The pizza is real good!
Things to bring: Some money for lunch and arcade games and the fee to use the ferry crossing. It is wise to bring water bottles, there are a few places on the trip to get water. Dress in layers because it can be warm in irvine and cool at newport harbor.
