Troop/Unit/Crew Merit Badge Counselor
Application Procedure

1. Fill out the two-sided-page of the OCBSA Merit Badge Counselor Application http://www.ocbsa.org/pdffiles/meritbadgecounselorapplication.pdf
2. Fill out the three-page BSA Adult Leader Application (for position code, enter 42) http://www.scouting.org/forms/28-501.pdf
3. Make two copies of the MB Application (no additional copies of the Adult Application)
· Give one copy to the troop MB Coordinator
· Keep the second copy for your records
4. Mail or hand carry the two original applications (MB and Adult) to:

5. If you wish to confirm that your application is properly on file, contact Linda Walch directly, or if there is no urgency, see the troop training chair or Scoutmaster who will periodically obtain a copy of the MB Counselor list that is published for the Saddleback District.

Future Re-certification:
January 1, 2006

All Merit Badge Counselors that are current on December 21, 2005 will be added to the Council charter for the period from 1/1/2006 through 12/31/2006. This will take place without any action on the part of the individual Merit Badge Counselors. These counselors will need to renew their applications in the fall of 2006.

Starting October 2006

Annually, in October, Each (Troop/Unit/Crew) Merit Badge Counselor Coordinator will receive a list of their Merit Badge Counselors called a Master Troop MB Counselor worksheet from Linda Walch via e-mail or roundtable.

The Master Troop MB Counselor worksheet will have each counselor, their personal identification information and the merit badges each counselor is registered for listed on it.

On this Master Troop MB Counselor worksheet each Counselor will be asked to:
1. make any changes or corrections to personal identification information
2. make any additions or deletions of any merit badges
3. sign to indicate your interest to continue as a counselor for the indicated merit badges for the up coming year

If you are no longer interested in being a counselor for any merit badges, do not sign and your name will be removed.

Each (Troop/Unit/Crew) Merit Badge Counselor Coordinator will submit their updated and signed Master Troop MB Counselor worksheet to Linda by December 1st.

Any counselors that have not signed the Master Troop MB Counselor worksheet at this time will be removed from the Merit Badge Counselor List and re-application will be necessary.
